Bio

The High Sierra Rural Alliance is a non-profit, grassroots organization committed to the preservation and enhancement of the rural Sierra experience. We believe rural values provide a balance between human, economic and environmental well-being. Our geographic focus is Sierra County and Plumas County, with special concern for the Sierra Valley and the Lakes Basin District.

The goals of the organization are to:

  • Promote good local and regional land use planning that will balance economic growth with the preservation of the area's unique natural and scenic resources.
  • Work with others to achieve this balance; landowners, businesses, public agencies, elected representatives, educators, and public and private organizations.
  • Promote informed public participation by providing outreach and information to impacted communities.
  • Assist local agencies and organizations in mitigating the toxic legacy of abandoned gold mines.
  • Protect public access to public lands.

The HSRA was founded by experienced land use planners, who have worked in county government in the area and know the issues firsthand. For more information, to join or to contribute, please check out our website.
