Rural Ozone: Crops and Country Lungs

I came across this post from our colleagues at Yonder which both surprised and shocked me.  Do you have a sense of the  air pollution levels in the rural Sierra?  They're pretty bad.

In fact, Nevada County appears to have some of the worst air in the nation.

Why is it that rural areas have such polluted air?  And where is it the worst?  Want to find out?   Read on...

I realize that the damages

I realize that the damages pertaining to air pollution are pretty bad in the foothills, but are there ANY solutions that can be put into effect immediately? The last time I came to the Sierra Nevada, I specifically remember driving through a huge, grey cloud of dust.  Also, what are some of the hazards associated with this high level of pollution?

Nevada County one of the worst for air pollution

Yes, that is one of our claims to fame up here in the foothills. The exact shape of the western slope of the Sierra combines perfectly with the prevailing winds to bring us some god-awful air quality. It's one of the those issues that just SO big it is hard to get a grasp on what to do. Catherine Stifter
