Sierra Stories Top 100 Mark at Sierra Business Council Annual Meeting

Sierra Storybooth reached our goal of 100 stories (110 and counting...) collected this past week at the Sierra Business Council's Annual Meeting in Yosemite National Park. Perfect fall weather, engaging sessions and keynote speakers including Robert F. Kennedy Jr. drew a couple hundred folks to the meeting. We were able to collect nearly 20 interviews in 2 days with the help of intern Chris Kerston and his wife Katie. We heard from the east, south, north and central Sierra including stories of a new film museum in Lone Pine, conservation easements near Benton Hot Springs, the ghost of the Groveland Hotel, and, of course much more. Among the memorable quotes from Kennedy's powerful, rambling, thought-provoking speech is "the economy is a wholly owned subsidiary of the environment" emphasizing the fundamental nature of rural economy which by definition owes its existence to the environment in which it is based.

awesome fourth graders

i just had to express how wicked cool the poem read by thegrass valley charter school was. those fourth graders really brought the poem to life and it was most enjoyable to hear.
