NPR Gold Story Takes Same Old Frame: Jobs vs. Environment

This summer Alex Chadwick of NPR's Day to Day covered the possible re-opening of the Idaho-Maryland Mine in Nevada City in a story that outlined the present day lure of mining and also gold rush history. Unfortunately, the report frames the issue as one of economics vs. environment as if clean water and concerns about mercury contamination were at odds with sustainable rural economics.
